Christ Church Halls Redevelopment

Artists Impression of the new Hall Extension

Jeakins Weir has won a £1.9 million contract to extend a Church of England church building located in central Bedford.

The redevelopment of the church halls at Christ Church, Bedford is intended ‘’to create an expanded and enhanced ‘go to’ hub of community life, a place of welcome, care and encouragement, where we live to love God and others.’’

Jeakins Weir will demolish and replace the existing single storey hall with a new  two storey eco building. The existing church and main hall opened in 1958, with other adjustments made over the years. The existing church will be retained with the addition of the new multi-use hall extension, also containing an upper floor gallery area overlooking the entrance lobby, meeting rooms and a catering kitchen, among other facilitates.

Alistair Weir Managing Director of Jeakins Weir said: “Our work started in July and should be completed at the end of April 2017. At the end of the project, Christ Church will have a welcoming new entrance and much improved support facilities and meeting rooms for all those who use the church building.”

Jeakins Weir look forward to welcoming the Year 1 pupils from Castle Newnham School to the site in November for educational sessions on Health and Safety, as well as meeting the Considerate Constructors Scheme mascot, Ivor Goodsite.
