Jeakins Weir was contracted by The Duchy of Lancaster to construct a new College Campus at Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire. We were involved early in the process and carried out cost appraisals on two schemes; firstly to renovate and remodel the existing farm buildings, and secondly to demolish and build a new bespoke campus. The client chose the latter option, comprising the following:
- demolition and removal from site of existing steel framed/masonry farm buildings;
- erection of new college teaching and workshop facilities;
- starter business workshop/office units;
- foul and surface water drainage, sewage treatment plant and balancing ponds;
3 years later, we negotiated £500k of further works, comprising the insertion of a mezzanine floor to form additional classrooms as well as to construct a new extension.
